High Stability

Do you work in a field such as electrophysiology, evolutionary biology, or neuroscience where outstanding stability is required for successful experiments? The Leica DM6 FS fixed stage fluorescence microscope is a suitable instrument for your present and future challenges.

  • Perform your experiment with a high degree of mechanical and electronic stability
  • Save time using the microscope’s full range of automated functions
  • Efficiently work with tools and accessories using special Leica optics that provide ample clearance around the specimen
  • Add special techniques based on the Leica DM6 FS for Optogenetics and Cryo CLEM

Stabilize Your Experiments

Stabilize Your Experiments

Electrophysiological experiments are highly susceptible to external vibration and other interference. Any manipulation of a specimen can disrupt the axonal connections within the tissue slice or the acquired patch-clamp configuration.

The electronic design of the Leica DM6 FS stabilizes your experiments:

  • Control the full system without touching the stand
  • All motors and current-carrying elements are switched off if not in use

The compact design of the instrument makes it mechanically stable as well, and creates space for accessories to be used on the microscope’s stage.

Vibration-free Operation

Vibration-free Operation

Operate the microscope smoothly using the remote control. The motorized objective changer prevents disruption of your sample by swapping two objectives in a vibration-free manner.

  • Switch magnification without touching the microscope
  • Change objectives or gently immerse an objective into the buffer solution

Ample Clearance

Ample Clearance

Choose from a range of special objectives featuring extra-long free working distance, a large access angle, and an inert ceramic front with minimal electric and thermal conductivity for electrophysiology.

  • Use the Leica HC FLUOTAR L 25x/0.95 W VISIR objective from our series of high-end objectives especially designed for near-infrared DIC
  • Open the visual field for good clearance around the specimen with an access angle of 41° and a large free working distance of 2.5 mm
  • Penetrate into thick tissue (2.5 mm) with high contrast and high resolution using Wollaston prisms for Differential Interference Contrast (DIC)

Easily Customize Your Set-Up

Easily Customize Your Set-Up

Configure your objectives in three different ways and combine all of these with three different motorized magnification changers.

  • On a 6-position motorized nosepiece
  • On a 2-position motorized objective changer
  • On a single objective holder

You can switch optically between magnifications during an experiment without changing the objective at all by combining a magnification changer with low magnification – high numerical aperture objectives.

For which applications would I typically use the Leica DM6 FS?
The Leica DM6 FS fixed stage microscope is designed for neuroscience applications such as electrophysiology. The system has special adaptations, such as convenient specimen access, flexibility in design, and electric stability. For example, it switches off all motors and current-carrying elements during data acquisition for the highest mechanical and electronic stability during your experiments. Furthermore the Leica DM6 FS is an ideal instrument for any fluorescence imaging purpose where the specimen is in an aqueous solution and cannot be imaged using an inverted microscope. For these applications Leica Microsystems offers special high performance water dip-in lenses. Examples include thick or non-transparent specimens such as tissue slices, whole organs, or whole animals.
How does the Leica DM6 FS make my work easier?
The Leica DM6 FS is highly automated. For example, a motorized objective changer allows vibration-free changing between two objectives. While switching magnification, you do not have to touch the instrument at all. An access angle of 41° to 45°and a free working distance of between 2.5 mm and 3.7 mm provide excellent clearance around the specimen. In addition, the combination of a magnification changer with “low magnification – high numerical aperture objectives”, such as the 25x/0.95 NA water immersion objective, allows for optical switching between magnifications in transmitted light mode during an experiment without changing the objective at all.
Which contrast methods can I use on the Leica DM6 FS?
The Leica DM6 FS can be prepared for brightfield (BF), fluorescence (Fluo), darkfield (DF), phase (PH), polarization (Pol), and Differential Interference Contrast (DIC).
What are the advantages of the Leica DM6 FS?
The Leica DM6 FS is tailored for electrophysiology. It has special shielded cables and motors plus space for peripherals. You can combine Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) and epifluorescence with the recording or synchronization of electric signals. Your experiments remain stable, because the instrument eliminates all mechanical vibrations and electrical interference. You can easily access the specimen because of the large amount of space around the specimen. You can also switch objectives without touching the microscope, using the motorized two-position objective changer and gently submerge the objectives into the aqueous solution with precise automatic refocusing. Last, but not least, the Leica DM6 FS is ready for Optogenetics when combined with equipment such as the Lumen Dynamics X-Cite XLED1 or Andor Mosaic or Rapp OptoElectronic UGA-42-Firefly.
How much free space is available around the specimen?
Depending on the objective in use the Leica DM6 FS has a free working distance between 2.5 mm and 3.7 mm with an access angle of 41° to 45°.
How many objectives can I use with the Leica DM6 FS?
There are three configurations for objectives available: 6-fold motorized nosepiece 2-fold motorized objective changer single objective holder
Which software can I use with the Leica DM6 FS?
The Leica DM6 FS is delivered with Leica Application Suite X (LAS X).
