Our top-of-the-line ultracentrifuges are designed to meet your lab's separation needs, delivering remarkable speed and efficiency while incorporating multiple layers of safety features to establish a secure and productive work environment.
APPLICATIONS
Ultracentrifugation Applications
- Isolating macromolecules, viruses and other types of small particles through pelleting techniques.
- Purifying proteins, extracellular vesicles and viral vectors through density gradient separation techniques.
FAQs
What is the difference between centrifugation and ultracentrifugation?
The primary difference is the speed at which samples are spun inside the instrument.
Ultracentrifugation delivers extremely high centrifugal forces. Scientists typically use the term ultracentrifugation when the centrifugal field is 100,000 x g or higher. Some of our ultracentrifuges create a centrifugal field greater than 1 million x g. Such strong centrifugal fields can be used for preparation and purification of macromolecules, nanoparticles, viral vectors and more.
What should I consider when buying an ultracentrifuge?
When choosing an ultracentrifuge, consider factors such as:
- Volume/capacity
- Maximum speed
- Rotor options
- Cost
- Maintenance & service
- User-friendly interface & display screen
- Temperature control
- Safety features
What distinguishes our Optima X and MAX series ultracentrifuges from others?
As pioneers, we brought the first ultracentrifuge to market in 1947, and since then our line has seen several advancements in keeping with changes in application needs.
Designed with air-cooled drives, a high imbalance-tolerance and a refrigeration system that works with no refrigerants, our Optima ultracentrifuges are appropriate for a wide range of applications.
What types of rotors are compatible with our ultracentrifuges?
- Fixed-angle
- Near-vertical
- Swinging-bucket
- Zonal
- Vertical
Can I remotely control/monitor an ultracentrifuge?
Yes – we offer ultracentrifuges that can be controlled and monitored remotely. You can monitor, start, and stop your ultracentrifuge from outside the lab via a smart phone or a computer. We also offer an Application Programming Interface for our premier Optima XPN centrifuge models.
What safety features are integrated into our ultracentrifuges?
Safety features include:
- Overspeed protection: rotors are protected from exceeding their maximum rated speed to help prevent failure and damage to the rotor and instrument.
- HEPA filtration option.
- A wide variety of labware designed specifically for ultracentrifugal forces.
What languages are supported by the user interface in our ultracentrifuges?
Optima ultracentrifuges support nine languages (maximum at the industry level):
- English
- German
- Chinese
- Russian
- Japanese
- Portuguese
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
Do we offer service and maintenance support for our ultracentrifuges?
Our factory-trained field engineers provide professional, high-quality service and maintenance support. You can talk to our technical support team for all your service, repair, preventive maintenance, calibration, and validation requirements.
Is operator training available?
Yes, we offer online learning and instructor-led instrument training.
